The primary responsibility of the Public Information Office is to maintain and expand governmental, community and private sector participation in the regional planning work of SLOCOG. This is accomplished by working with cities and counties, local government officials, community and business interest groups, and the news media. The Public Information Office is responsible for disseminating SLOCOG’s messages by preparing brochures, newsletters, and presentations, facilitating news media requests and conducting news conferences, writing speeches, newspaper and magazine articles and broadcast public service announcements when necessary and working with SLOCOG planners to conduct public workshops and hearings. An integral part of these communications efforts is our in-house graphics staff who create many of the visual components.

2024 Public Involvement Plan (PIP)
The Public Involvement Plan (PIP) is created to support the development of the 2027 Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) by creating a variety of opportunities for individuals, organizations, agencies, and other stakeholders to provide input in an equitable and inclusive manner. The 2027 RTP, SLOCOG’s long-range transportation plan, will provide a 20+ year comprehensive vision of county-wide targets, policy objectives, action strategies. The PIP, a subset of the agency’s Public Participation Plan (PPP), was drafted using the guidelines listed in the PPP and the California Transportation Commission’s 2024 RTP Guidelines.

2021 Public Participation Plan (PPP)
The Public Participation Plan (PPP) is both a federal and state requirement for MPOs, which establishes a model for effective public involvement and contains strategies and tools for including the public in our region’s planning process. Public participation is an integral part of the transportation process; it helps assure projects address community needs and concerns. The SLOCOG Board approved release of Draft 2021 PPP for the public’s 45-day review period from December 18, 2020-February 3, 2021 following review by the agency’s transportation advisory committees and Board. The plan was adopted following the public hearing on February 3, 2021 to consider comments and final adoption.
