Regional Surface Transportation Program (RSTP)

Every two years, during the Regional Transportation Improvement Program (RTIP) update process – when SLOCOG administers the agency’s discretionary funding sources (RSTP, CMAQ and STIP) -  new projects are nominated by the cities, county, transit operators, and other public transportation agencies through a review process that directly involves local government representatives to participate in the Regional Surface Transportation Program (RSTP). The RSTP next call for projects is expected to be in Spring/Summer 2021.

SLOCOG distributes approximately $3.8M annually to our region, subject to federal gas tax subventions and based on apportionment levels under the federal FAST Act. The funding for the RSTP Exchange Program, originates from the Federal Surface Transportation Block Grant Program. SLOCOG also utilizes the RSTP funds for programming of programs and projects key to advancing the Goals and Policies of the Regional Transportation Plan and Sustainable Community Strategy.
