Scenic Byway Community Gateway Project
Identified in the 2007 Byway Corridor Plan as a priority project and funded through a grant from the National Scenic Byway Program, this project will design and construct three highway community gateway monuments. One monument will be constructed at the entrance to each of the following communities: San Simeon (northbound), Cambria (southbound) and San Luis Obispo (northbound at Highland). Each community was responsible for the preliminary design and content and went through various public vetting processes (i.e. the SLO Architectural Review Committee). The preliminary designs and plans were approved by the SLOCOG Board on December 5, 2012 and by the Landscape Architecture Divsion of Caltrans on May 10, 2013. SLOCOG will now commence the process to construction of all three monuments.
